Restored as a second home in Italy, this old farmhouse in Southern Tuscany is also available for letting throughout the year. It sleeps 6 people in large bedrooms (1 double and 2 twin) all en-suite.
Casetta del Brinco - literally, small house belonging to Mr Brinco - sits on a hillside close to the Val d’Orcia. The house is surrounded by fields and olive groves with really lovely views across open country to distant hills and valleys. Private but not isolated, it is only 2 kms from Radicofani, a delightful, untouristy mediaeval hilltop town with an enormous tower, a couple of restaurants and a good selection of shops selling all the essentials.
The house is well placed to act as a base for exploring the famous Tuscan and Umbrian towns of Orvieto, Cortona, Perugia, Arezzo, Siena, Montepulciano and so forth, particularly in the winter months when there are less tourists. It is also within easy day trip distance of both Rome and Florence. Frequent, reliable and fast trains run from Chiusi (25 minutes drive away) to the centre of both these cities.
There are many glorious walks from the house, and even more a short drive away particularly in the Val d'Orcia which has recently been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are plenty of restaurants in the nearby hilltop towns although many of our guests like to buy fresh local produce and experiment with dishes from the cookery books on the kitchen shelves. The splendid thermal baths at the spa town of San Casciano dei Bagni, a short car drive away, are excellent value for those who want to pamper themselves.
In short, there is plenty to do in winter or summer.
